Southport, CT – All members of the local community in the Fairfield area are invited to join ‘Let’s Talk Death Over Dinner’, an urgent conversation about how to expand our perceptions of life, death and grief, sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church and Trinity Spiritual Centre.
This quirky and one-of-a-kind dinner will be hosted by ‘underground restaurateur and provocateur’ Michael Hebb, and will take place on Sunday May 1 from 5:30-7:30pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport. . During what Hebb suggests is “life’s most important conversation”, participants will look at the fears we all have, think about what we want, both now for the rest of life and its end, so we can enjoy deeper connections and the sweetness of life. final chapters. The discussion will be followed by dinner in the parish hall.
Hebb is the founding partner of Convivium, a creative agency specializing in culture change through the use of thoughtful foods and discourse-based gatherings. Hebb’s “Let’s Dine and Talk About Death” project quickly inspired people to turn this seemingly difficult conversation into one of deep engagement, insight and empowerment. Over a million people have attended these dinners around the world over the past 10 years.
After a highly interactive discussion over wine, beer and family dinner, participants will begin having “those conversations” in a safe, discreet and light-hearted way – “a kind of workout to reduce anxiety which we will experience later with parents or elders in our networks,” says Mark Grayson, director of the Trinity Spiritual Center.
During the evening, Hebb will provide key lessons from his book, Let’s Talk About Death (At Dinner): An Invitation and Guide to Life’s Most Important Conversation, who documents his experience leading these conversations. Everyone is welcome. No affiliation with Trinity is required.
Hebb, whose writings have appeared in USA today, QG, Food and wine, and many other publications, is the founder of Deathoverdinner.org and EOL.community. As we build more comfort and literacy around this important topic, each of us wins. In fact, it is a conversation about life and how we want to live.
“It’s not often that an invitation to dinner is also an invitation to talk about the end of life, but we believe that, like so many other programs at Trinity Spiritual Center, it will be a most memorable experience” , said Peggy Hodgkins, Rector of Trinity Church in Southport. “We invite people to take a chair, break bread and talk about the inevitable: the end of life. It’s a vital conversation that, while difficult, can also bring tremendous peace to us and our loved ones.
Hebb is currently an advisor to the board of trustees of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University; and in the recent past as a Partner at RoundGlass and Senior Advisor to Summit Series, Theo Chocolate, CreativeLive, Architecture For Humanity, and Mosaic Voices Foundation. His second book “Let’s talk about death” was published by Hachette in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia in October 2018 and in Russia, China, Indonesia, Poland and Romania in the fall of 2019.
In 2019, Michael Hebb launched the Health Edition of Death Over Dinner in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, launching a grassroots national discussion through these important virtual dinners, conversations and events.
