Tickets for Author Sue Halpern’s Discussion, Manchester Community Library fundraiser are on sale now

Manchester, VT—Sue Halpern, Vermont bestselling author and editor for The New Yorker Magazine, is leading a special evening fundraiser June 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the library. In addition to Sue Halpern’s discussion, the evening will include a reception featuring wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and the opportunity to preview and purchase items from the book sale. . This is the inaugural event of the Green Mountain Festival and Library Book Sale taking place June 9-12 at the Library on Cemetery Road in Manchester, Vermont.
Halpern is the author of seven books, including the bestselling A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home and Four Wings and a Prayer, which was made into an Emmy-nominated film. She has been a columnist for MotherJones and Ms, and has written on science, technology and politics for The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone and The New Republic, as well as The New York Review of Books where she is a regular contributor. . She founded and edits NYRBLit, the electronic publishing brand of New York Review of Books, where she is a regular contributor. Halpern is a Scholar-in-Residence at Middlebury College where she directs the Narrative Journalism program. She is a recipient of Guggenheim and Echo Green Fellowships and earned a PhD in Political Theory from Oxford University.

Unlike many libraries across the country, Manchester Community Library is not 100% taxpayer funded. The library receives only a portion of its annual operating budget (as voted each year) from the community. The majority of its funding comes from donors and grants.
“Tickets purchased for this event and proceeds from the more than 9,000 books on sale will go directly towards supporting the programs, services and resources that community members use every day, free of charge,” Hespe said.
In addition to Halpern’s appearance, the Festival will feature a host of other Vermont authors as well as story times and activities for families, musical performances, a showcase of non-profit organizations from region and of course, the sale of more than 9,000 books as new and lightly used. of all genres, for people of all ages.
