The Whitefield Society will feature the award-winning Maine author on October 16

The Whitefield Historical Society plans to hold its annual Remembrance Day at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 at the Whitefield Fire Station, 24 Townhouse Road.

Deborah Gould, author of ‘Romans of the East: The Early Years and Later’, will be this year’s guest speaker.

Gould grew up in Portland and Brunswick. After college in New Hampshire, she moved to Boston and worked for a major publishing company, but later returned to Maine, according to a press release from society member Sue McKeen.

She was a finalist for the Maine Literary Award in 2013 and a year later won that award. His historical novel “The Early Years” was a finalist for the 2016 Maine Literary Award; his contemporary fiction, “Household” (2021), has been endorsed by Patrisha McLean, founder of Finding Our Voices.

Gould was a longtime volunteer for two domestic violence agencies in Maine, facilitating support groups for women in abusive relationships; she served on the board of the Family Violence Project.

A member of the Cumberland Street Writers, she resides three seasons in Brunswick and spends her summers at Flying Pond in Mount Vernon.
