The Tull Family Theater will host The Damaged Pies, author Elin Hilderbrand

The Tull Family Theater is hosting two upcoming events.

First, they’re teaming up with The Damaged Pies, one of Pittsburgh’s favorite bands, for a movie, concert, and hunger relief on June 19.

For their 35th anniversary, the band will bring their signature rock and five-part harmonies to an all-ages benefit concert for their long-supported cause: WhyHunger Nonprofit Global Artists Against Hunger and Poverty.

The event kicks off with a 2 p.m. screening of “Go and Get Your Girl,” featuring exclusive footage of The Damaged Pies in rehearsal and performance at the acoustically acclaimed Carnegie Music Hall and Carnegie Free Library. Captured by Tom Weber Films, this footage shares moments behind the scenes and in front of the audience of the band’s artistry, the backstory, and the motivation that led to such longevity.

“We wanted to commemorate the band’s 35th anniversary with a sequel to our 2011 film, ‘Same Circus, Different Town’,” said band leader Steve Bodner. “The idea was to have a loose, intimate look at the band through songs and interactions. As for the title, ‘Go and Get Your Girl’ had that old Elvis or beach movie that made it good We had a great time on set with our friend, Megan Paullet, sitting down to a few songs.

After the screening of the documentary, The Damaged Pies will perform live in a 40-minute concert at the Theatre.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance online or at the door. Attendees are also encouraged to bring boxed cereal, peanut butter, jelly, crackers and granola bars to support the Coraopolis Food Pantry. Anyone unable to attend in person can still donate online to WhyHunger artists against hunger and poverty.

On June 20, Tull is teaming up with Sewickley’s independent Penguin Bookshop for a Q&A between New York Times bestselling author and ‘beach reading queen’ Elin Hilderbrand, as well as the Pittsburgh blogger and cookbook author, Jessica Merchant. The event celebrates Hilderbrand’s new release, “The Hotel Nantucket,” talking about food, writing, and everything in between.

Hilderbrand, a year-round Nantucket resident, has written 27 previous novels, including “The Blue Bistro” and “Golden Girl.” Millions of people follow the food blog How Sweet Eats and the cookbooks (Seriously Delish and The Pretty Dish) written by Merchant, a recipe developer from Pittsburgh.

This event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the community room of the Theatre. The admission ticket consists of pre-ordering a copy of “The Hotel Nantucket” at the bookstore (online or at the bookstore). Attendees are encouraged to wear black and/or white for this event, in keeping with Hilderbrand’s book-specific themes.
