The region’s author will discuss the ‘battle’ at the club | News, Sports, Jobs

Since 2019, the Shorewood Book Club has featured an author with local ties for a book signing and presentation at the Shorewood Country Club. This year, the club will feature Jill Krzyzanowicz, also known by her pseudonym, Margo Reilly. Krzyzanowicz will present his book, “When the apple falls far from the tree”, and Sue Ketcham, who runs the club, said that after reading the book herself she thought it would be good for general discussion.
“The book was given to me by a friend of hers, and I read it, I did say she’s local and we’ve had a local author for several years and we wanted to do this for Jill,” said Ketcham.
Krzyzanowicz is a teacher in the Dunkirk City School District and in the book shares her experiences and how she overcame many challenges in her life. Ketcham said one of the things that drew her to the book was the result of Krzyzanowicz, despite the challenges she faced.
“It was written out of a need for catharsis for a difficult childhood”, said Ketcham. “She had a very serious case of cancer and only survived addiction issues after surgery. She had to struggle with a lot of different things, and she could have taken one of two paths.
If she had followed the same path she had grown up, no one would have been wiser, but she went the other way, survived and became a better person.
Book club presentations began in 2019 with author Karen Wielinski, who spoke about her experience as a wife who lost her husband when Flight 3407 crashed into her Clarence home in 2009. Wielinski wrote the book. “One in the Field” about the event, and this presentation drew a good crowd that year, with Ketcham saying people traveled from Jamestown to Buffalo to attend. During the pandemic, Zoom presentations took place, but now in-person presentations are back at Shorewood Country Club. While the former got a strong turnout, Ketcham said she’s not sure what to expect from this year’s iteration or future ones, though she’s optimistic for similar turnouts.
“The first got a lot of media recognition for this book, while others will be more local people,” said Ketcham. “We take reservations to get an idea of how much food we need. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but we’re hoping for good turnout and lots of support for Jill’s story.
Krzyzanowicz’s presentation will take place at Shorewood Country Club on September 27 at 6:30 p.m., and reservations are appreciated. All are welcome and light snacks will be available with a cash bar. The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute question and answer period, as well as a meeting.
The book club is a function of the Shorewood Woman’s Association. In addition to books by Wielinski and Krzyzanowicz, there were also presentations for “Catbird: The Ballad of Barbi Prim” by Barbara Ostfield and “Dark Enigma” by Deborah Madar.
Krzyzanowicz’s book can be purchased on Kindle or at Circle of Light on Main Street in Fredonia. Krzyzanowicz is also in charge of the just blog site Jill.com and has taken a life coach course in hopes of helping others on their own journeys of transformation.
