“Ash and Gold by Lydia R. Outland is a phenomenal addition to the paranormal books. Briar Rose Pierce, or as her friends affectionately call her – Buggy – because of her big eyes, is a young woman with a difficult past, abandoned to the birth in a cold, dark alley, plagued by vivid nightmares of dying in horrible ways and with a growing emptiness in her chest. She recently celebrated her twenty-fourth birthday and everything has become much worse. In addition to her nightmares of being burned alive, committing suicide, and being stabbed to death, she begins to hallucinate, drink more often, and she feels the emptiness in her chest growing like it’s a dark, tangible thing. Buggy must discover the root of his burdens and his past before irretrievably destroying his life or, even worse, being consumed by emptiness.

“Ash and Gold by Lydia R. Outland is a book I would rate 10 if I could. I originally planned to complete Ash and Gold within 5-6 days, but here I am writing the review 4 days later. The slow start pace of the book got me so invested in Buggy’s life that when the floodgates of his life and past were opened, a third of the way through, I was completely hooked and blown away. Buggy is exceptionally well written, as are the supporting characters and antagonists, and I felt every moment of joy, suspense, shock, and setback that Buggy felt, which is a testament to Lydia’s exceptional writing ability. A. Outland. The story is one of the most unique paranormal adventures I’ve had the pleasure of reading. I loved the descriptive details of the environments, violent scenes, and emotions displayed. I have a hard time comparing Ash and Gold to other works because I really haven’t read anything like it. A literary masterpiece.
