Suwanee Library to host award-winning author and poet
the Gwinnett County Public Library The Sundays in Suwanee series will continue on Sunday April 3 with the award-winning novelist and poet Tiphanie Yanique.
Yanique will discuss her latest novel and collection of short stories, “Monster in the Middle,” which follows a couple — a black American musician of mixed religious background and a Catholic science teacher from the Caribbean — as their romance spans decades. decades and continents and is influenced by family traditions and love stories that preceded theirs. “Monster in the Middle” was included in the Boston Globe’s Best Books of 2021 list.
Yanique is also the author of the award-winning novel “Land of Love and Drowning”, which won the 2014 Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Award from the Center for Fiction, the Phillis Wheatley Prize for Pan-African Literature and the American Academy of Arts. and Letters Rosenthal Family Foundation Award. The novel was listed by NPR as one of the best books of 2014. Yanique’s collection of poetry “Wife” won the 2016 Bocas Prize for Caribbean Poetry and the 2016 UK Forward/Felix Dennis Award for a premiere collection. She is also a recipient of the 2014 Center for Fiction First Novel Award and a National Book Foundation 5 under 35 winner. She also received a Rona Jaffe Award and a Fulbright Fellowship. His short fiction was published in “The New Yorker” and anthologized in “Best American Short Stories 2020”.
Originally from the Virgin Islands, Yanique now lives in Atlanta, where she is an associate professor at Emory University.
The Sundays in Suwanee Series event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 3 p.m. at the Suwanee Library branch at 361 Main St.
