San Diego Author T. Jefferson Parker Releases New Book: “A Thousand Steps”
Three-time Edgar Prize winner and New York Times bestselling author T. Jefferson Parker has a new book called, “A thousand steps.” The new book is a standalone thriller, a departure from its crime series set in Fallbrook.
“A Thousand Steps” is set at Laguna Beach in the 1960s and forms a coming-of-age story with a deadly mystery, surrounded by surf, sand, hippies, rock and roll, and against the backdrop of the Vietnam War.

Parker joined KPBS Midday Edition on Wednesday to discuss his new novel.
“I felt compelled when I started to remember the times I spent there as a young boy at the age of about 14, and it was time for me to write a other book, ”Parker said. “The more I thought about Laguna 1968 and the things I saw, heard and read there, the more I got interested in it, and ‘A Thousand Steps’ kind of just sounded like a story to me and me. required you to sit down and write it down. “
He said the title of the book comes from a childhood memory.
“I love this beach. It was one of the first places I saw as a kid and went to Laguna. I will never forget this beach,” Parker said. “The first time I went there, I don’t know I was probably 14 years old, and I went down the thousand steps to the beach of the thousand steps and I had to count them like anybody else. what kid would, and there were 220 that I remember. ”
Parker will speak and sign copies of his new book at his book launch event on Saturday, January 22 at the Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook.
