Who is William Kent Krueger? “Raised in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, William Kent Krueger briefly attended Stanford University, before being expelled for radical activities. After that, he chopped wood, worked in construction, tried his hand at freelance journalism, and ended up researching child development at the University of Minnesota. He has been married for almost 50 years to a wonderful woman who is a retired lawyer. He settled in Saint-Paul, a town he loved very much.
Krueger is writing a mystery series set in the woods of northern Minnesota. Its protagonist is Cork O’Connor, the former Sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed, part-Irish and part-Ojibwe ancestry. His work has received numerous awards, including the Minnesota Book Award, Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, Anthony Award, Barry Award, Dilys Award, and Friends of American Writers Prize. His last nine novels were all New York Times bestsellers:
Ordinary Grace, her stand-alone novel published in 2013 received the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America in recognition of the best novel published that year.
