Netflix’s New Mystery Series By A Popular Author Continues To Dominate The Ratings Charts

stay close has been another hit mystery thriller for Netflix since its New Year’s Eve release. The eight-episode limited series was based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben, who also wrote the series and serves as an executive producer. The show has remained in Netflix’s Global Top 10 since its premiere and is climbing week after week.

Although stay close was released on December 31, the British show debuted at number five on Netflix World Top 10, with 31.29 million hours logged by subscribers, during the week of December 27 to January 27. 2. In its second week, from January 3 to 9, stay close climbed to second place, with 91.18 million hours watched. The series also held second place in the US rankings, just behind Cobra Kai Season 4.

stay close features Cush Jumbo, who is best known for playing Lucca Quinn on The good wife and The good fight. She plays Megan Pierce, a suburban mother fleeing a difficult past. She lives with her soul mate, Dave (Daniel Francis), and their three children. His life is thrown into chaos when police detective Michael Broome (James Nesbitt) begins to investigate a cold case. The cast also includes Richard Armitage, Sarah Parish, Eddie Izzard, Jo Joyner and Youssef Kerkour. All eight episodes are now available.

Coben’s original novel was set in Atlantic City, but stay close was moved to Blackpool, England for the series. In an interview with Deadline, Coben forbade making changes to his own source material for the screen adaptation. “It’s really fun to switch things up,” Coben said. “The worst adaptations are those that are slavishly devoted to the [original] text. I love working with the cast of characters to move a story forward.”

The project is the latest in Coben’s deal with Netflix. In 2018, he signed a five-year deal with the streamer to develop shows based on 14 of his novels. So far, Netflix has already filmed Safe (2018), the stranger (2020), Woods (2020), the innocent (2021), and gone for good (2021) in series. The shows are produced by Red Production Company. Coben already has two more adaptations in the works, and he plans to continue working with Netflix once his contract ends.

“They’ve been great collaborators and give me the freedom to work with others if I want to,” Coben said. Deadline. “On December 31st, I love the idea that someone in Los Angeles presses a button and 200 million people in 190 countries can watch my show.”
