A snapshot of the front page of Tom Henaghan’s new book, now on sale.
TOM Heneghan, originally from Donamona, Clogher, now living in Dublin, is the author of several books and although he has lived outside Mayo for many years, Tom’s feet are firmly planted in his native county.
Tom’s latest book, Life Is A Mystery, is a collection of humorous, nostalgic stories reminiscent of other times in Ireland.
Once I picked up Tom’s book, I became glued to it. The reader will easily identify with the period, with many of its characters and settings. One of the advantages of the book is that it is written in a very simple way.
An example of Tom’s down-to-earth writing is this excerpt from one of his stories about the old hat factory on Newport Road, Castlebar, which reads: “I had been wearing a peaked cap for a some time when one day I returned it. to see where it was made.
“To my surprise, it read Made in Castlebar. I went to school right next to the hat factory, but when I was young, I didn’t pay attention to it. A lot of farmers wore a cap peaked but never knew where they were made. made in a jam factory. The peaked cap is still going strong today.”
The quote above is a short excerpt from one of the many delightful stories in Life Is A Mystery, by Tom Heneghan.
The book is on sale at Castle Book Shop, Castle Street, Castlebar, or at Easons, Main Street, Castlebar.
