Local author Aric McBay to launch new book at KFPL event

What could happen in a generation to a society already on the verge of collapse? The first work of fiction by Aric McBay, author, farmer and local organizer, Kraken Calling, explores this question,
between 2028 and 2051.

In the year 2028, activists are fighting an increasingly desperate battle against the climate emergency and capitalism, while a radical movement called Kraken grows in the shadows. In 2051, an oppressive regime has taken power and the population is suffering as the revolutionaries struggle for survival and support.

On Saturday, July 9, McBay presents Kraken Calling at the Central Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library from 2-3:30 p.m. with a reading, multimedia presentation, and Q&A session. register here

“Aric’s return to the Library to promote his first work of fiction is something special! We’ve had Aric before and he’s filled the room,” said Jake Miller, Librarian, Adult Programming. “The community’s shared interest in environmental activism has only grown since then, and having a local author in the library is an opportunity for the community to reconnect on this topic after a difficult time.”

McBay writes and speaks about social movements and has organized campaigns around climate justice, prisoner justice, indigenous solidarity, pipelines, organizing and other causes. His other
writing includes Volumes 1 and 2 of Full Spectrum Resistance, Peak Oil Survival, What We Leave Behind and Deep Green Resistance.
