“Literature reflects society”, says the author on the release of the book: The Tribune India

A book ‘Suttey Shehar Da Safar’ authored by Professor Jaswant Singh Gandam was released today by GNA University President-Pro-Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Sihra in a brief ceremony held on campus university. GNA University, Punjabi Virsa Trust and Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Phagwara had jointly organized the ‘Pustak Lok Arpan’ function.

Speaking on the occasion, the author, Professor Gandam, said the book contained 28 articles on different topics written over the past two years.

Professor Gandam said: “The book contains 11 reflective and historical articles, eight satirical, four avian, four translated stories by internationally renowned writers and one on the memory of a deceased friend.”

He said that literature both reflected society and showed it a mirror. Gurdeep Singh Sihra praised the author’s contribution. He said that good books are steadfast friends and stressed the need to promote book culture. Sihra, an educator, entrepreneur, philanthropist and bird lover, had himself written a well-researched and illustrated English journal on pea birds entitled “Azure Hues” and had spent long hours in villages clicking on photographs of pea birds.

In his closing remarks, renowned Punjabi writer and Secretary General of the Punjabi Virsa Trust, Gurmit Palahi said, “The book was captivating, well-researched and original prose mixed with poetic style. It forces the reader to sit down and read it all at once. It will be a memorable milestone in prose literature. Famous Punjabi poets Baldev Raj Komal and Ravinder Chot mesmerized the audience with their poems.
