Library Events: Book Clubs, Movies and Author William Kent Krueger to Visit the Library – Superior Telegram
SUPERIOR — The month of subscription to the National Library card is in full swing.
If you don’t have a Superior Public Library card, now is a great time to sign up. Anyone who signs up for a new card during the month of September will be entered into a draw for a $50 Visa gift card. Already have a card? You can still win. Just tell us why you love your library and you’ll be entered into a prize draw too.
The Superior Public Library invites you to “fall” into reading with our first-ever fall reading program for children, teens, and adults. Register online and complete reading challenges until December 20 for a chance to win great prizes.
Our Bookworms Book Club selection for September is “Measuring Up” by Lily LaMotte. Cici, 12, enters a children’s cooking contest to raise money to pay for her grandmother’s trip from Taiwan to Seattle so they can celebrate her seventieth birthday together. It’s a great story about food, family, and finding your place in the world.
The Bookworms Book Club will meet on Friday, September 23 at 4 p.m. to discuss. You can access the book for free on Hoopla with your library card or view a copy at the library.
Join us on Monday, September 26 at 6 p.m. for a free screening of the new biopic “Elvis” directed by Baz Luhrmann. The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley and his relationships with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (played by Tom Hanks) and Priscilla Presley. This movie is rated PG-13 and closed captioning will be enabled.
On October 3 at 6 p.m., we will screen the new film “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” a comedy about a widowed maid in 1950s London whose quest for a Dior couture dress takes her to the streets of Paris where her unwavering spirit charms the elite she encounters. This movie is rated PG and closed captioning will be enabled.
Our October Book Club selection is Chris Bohjalian’s “The Witch’s Hour,” a gripping historical novel about a woman whose quest for divorce in 1662 Boston may well end in the stigma of the witch.
The book club will meet on October 6 at 10:30 a.m. and October 27 at 6 p.m. to discuss. Choose the time that best suits your schedule. Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk. Join us on October 8 at 10:30 a.m. for an all-levels yoga class led by instructors from the Superior Douglas County Family YMCA. This course is perfect for people aged 12 and over. Bring a mat if you have one. If you would like to donate money for the class, all donations will support future library programs.
Mark your calendars – we have big news. Award-winning author William Kent Krueger will visit the library on October 29 at 11 a.m. for a reading and book signing. Zenith Bookstore will be present at the library to sell copies of its books. Special thanks to Friends of the Library for providing refreshments.
Back by popular demand, the Duluth Paranormal Society will visit the library on October 26, just in time for Halloween. Join us at 6 p.m. to learn more about ghost hunting and paranormal investigations.
