George RR Martin Shouldn’t Have Wrote Elden Ring, Says Mistborn Author

Mistborn author Brandon Sanderson explains why he thinks he should have written Elden Ring instead of fellow fantasy novelist George RR Martin.

Born of the Mists author Brandon Sanderson recently explained why he would have been in a better position to write FromSoftware’s game, Ring of Eldenin the place of game of thrones author George RR Martin.

In a playful rant on the latest episode of his podcast Intentionally emptySanderson expressed frustration that FromSoftware chose Martin over himself to write Ring of Elden. “FromSoftware decides to make a fantasy game and partner with a fantasy novelist, right? Sanderson said. “And they choose someone who spends their days blogging about the NFL, rather than the person who has been playing their games since. king’s field, and has it consistently ranked its top 10 games over time? What are you thinking, people? …I’m like, George doesn’t play video games. George has no idea. So anyway, here it is.”

Sanderson has written several best-selling fantasy novels, including his long-running work Born of the Mists series and The Stormlight Archive. He is also known as the co-author of Robert Jordan’s last three novels. The wheel of time high-fantasy series, which he completed after Jordan’s death in 2007. Sanderson also revealed late last year that he had begun work on his own video game.

“I’ve been working on a video game for several years, and I think it will be announced this year,” the author wrote in an update on his website. “So start speculating! (Note: this is not for one of my properties, but something new that I built with them. It’s a gaming company that many of you have heard of, but probably not the one you’re thinking about right now. Not that other either.)”

Martin spoke about his involvement with Ring of Elden during an interview last summer where the author mentioned that he finished work on the game “years ago”. “Basically, they wanted a created world to set the game up. They wanted world building,” Martin said of his contribution to the project, referencing an important aspect of the fantasy and sci-fi genres. “I worked on a pretty detailed background for them and they took it from there, so it’s really been several years since I’ve seen them, but they would periodically come over and show me monsters that they had designed either the latest special effects or other cool things.”
