Did the Princes of the Tower really survive? The author reveals new evidence

Following the sensational discovery of his body under a car park in Leicester, the Richard III Society launched a project called The Missing Princes to find out what really happened to his nephews, the Princes in the Tower.

On Friday January 21, Nicola Cornick, local author, historian and member of the Richard III Society, addresses the subject in a conference at the Wantage library entitled Lost and Found from the Wars of the Roses. In it, Nicola also addresses the disappearance of Richard’s closest friend and supporter, Francis Lovell, whose life inspired his latest novel. The Last Girl.

Newbury has often played a part in the wider history of the county and the country. In 1483 the Duke of Buckingham and a number of local barons met here in secret to plan the overthrow of King Richard III, an event that features in The Last Daughter, which focuses on the mystery of the princes in the tower.

Nicola said: “Our region has strong ties to the Wars of the Roses and I look forward to exploring them in the conference as well as examining the theories about what happened to the Princes of the Tower and Francis Lovell. It is intriguing that there is new evidence to suggest that all of these people survived and that traditional stories may well need to be revised.

The conference is free and tickets are available from the Wantage library on 01235 762291 or via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/428233258782411
