About our speakers

Thrity Umrigar is the bestselling author of eight novels, including The Space Between Us, which was a PEN/Beyond Margins Award finalist, as well as a memoir and three picture books. His books have been translated into several languages ​​and published in more than fifteen countries. She is the winner of a Lambda Literary Award and a Seth Rosenberg Award and is Emeritus Professor of English at Case Western Reserve University. A recipient of the Nieman Fellowship at Harvard, she has contributed to the Boston Globe, Washington Post, New York Times and Huffington Post.

Chicago-based Rebecca Makkai is the author of the novels The Great Believers, The Hundred-Year House and The Borrower, as well as the collection of short stories Music for Wartime. The Great Believers was a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist, and received the ALA Carnegie Medal and the LA Times Book Prize, among other honors.
