CHILDLINE TIPS: Author Louise has a personal reason for supporting Childline
The service is absolutely free for young people in the North East and the rest of the UK, but costs £30,000 a day to operate.
We are therefore extremely grateful to everyone who raises funds to ensure that we can be there for the children whenever they need us.
Parenting vlogger, host and author Louise Pentland has pledged to fund Childline for a day through her #NowIKnow campaign.
Louise, like so many who fundraise for Childline, has a personal reason for supporting us.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Louise’s mother.
Shortly after her death, an adult entered Louise’s life who abused her emotionally and physically.
Confidentiality is vital to Childline, as it gives children and young people the confidence to contact us when they feel there is no one else they can talk to.
However, as a young girl, Louise did not know this was the case and therefore did not feel comfortable contacting us at the time.
But now she wants the kids to know that’s the case and for that reason, she and her famous friends will be hosting a live stream on YouTube on Thursday, April 21.
During the live stream, she will explain why the charity means so much to her, as well as her role as NSPCC and Childline Ambassador for Childhood, and raising funds to support the service.
Calls to the Childline service do not appear on any phone bill and children can contact our counselors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
They can also use the Childline website to contact our counselors or talk to other young people on moderated chat rooms.
The support from Louise, along with every member of the public who helps raise vital funds to support the NSPCC and Childline, truly makes a difference and we are extremely grateful.
This fundraiser helps ensure that our counselors can be there for children and young people whenever they need us, to share as little or as much as they need.
