Can we do local author Cynthia Rogerson’s book ‘Wah! Things I never told my mother’, the talk of the town of Dingwall?
A LOCAL author’s honest and very funny memoir is set to become the talk of the town of Dingwall this summer.
Wow! by Cynthia Rogerson! Things I Never Told My Mother, is at the center of a pioneering push by local publisher Sandstone Press, Dingwall Community Library and High Street firm Picaresque Books.
One Town, One Book is a community reading initiative that aims to get everyone reading and discussing the same book while supporting independent bookstores.
Dingwall’s first One Town, One Book project will include online and in-person discussions with book clubs, media interviews, readings and book signings in June and July.
Posters and other promotional materials are available for local Sandstone Press businesses while free books and bookmarks are available for Picaresque Books readers.
Cynthia Rogerson said she was “extremely excited,” adding, “Most importantly, my mom is ecstatic in her own posthumous way. ‘I’m so proud of you, she would say.'”
Robert Davidson, managing director of Sandstone Press, is delighted that the “wonderfully readable book” kicks off the collaboration. He said: “Not only has Cynthia been an incredibly positive force for creative writing in our region, Dingwall is also where Sandstone Press was founded.”
David Duguid of Picaresque Books said: “For a bookstore or library it’s always good to have the chance to celebrate a local writer or local publisher and so to do both is a very satisfying opportunity to slam- dunk. Here in the Highlands there is an avid, knowledgeable and appraising readership eager to support literary endeavors both in their local areas and across Scotland.”
Local library supervisor Carmen Garcia-Pagan said: “We are thrilled to be part of the One Town, One Book project celebrating Cynthia Rogerson’s new book. It’s always a pleasure to see her, she visited our book groups on several occasions where they’ve read and discussed some of his other works, so we’re really looking forward to reading his memoirs.”
Join Cynthia Rogerson, Sandstone and Picaresque Books at Dingwall Community Library on July 5 at 6:30 p.m. for an author talk and Q&A. The event is free but please RSVP to info@sandstonepress.com.
