The Duchess of Cornwall began to understand Princess Diana’s “dissatisfaction” with royal life before she married Prince Charles, according to a new book.
According to author and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, Camilla struggled with Charles’ “regimented” lifestyle, much like Diana.
And in her book The Palace Papers, published later this month, she claims the current Duchess has begun to understand the prince’s ex-wife’s frustrations with royal life.
Writing in the book, an excerpt from which was published in The TelegraphMs Brown writes: “The prince’s routine was relentless. He never ate breakfast and ate the same birdseed and peeled fruit every morning.

“Punctuality had never been Camilla’s strong point, but Charles expected her to be ready for engagements at her own pace. When she asked where they were going, he snapped, ‘You haven’t read the brief?” A friend of hers at the time told me that she had even begun to empathize with Diana’s multiple annoyances.”
Meanwhile, the excerpt also claims that Camilla once believed there was no upside to being the Prince of Wales’ wife.
Ms Brown adds: “For a while she had thought there was an advantage in not being Charles’ wife. She had always hated stealing, public speaking, dressing up and attracting the attention of the press.

“She had never had a schedule full of things she didn’t want to do, which basically defines the royal lifestyle.”
However, several years later, in February 2005, it was announced that Camilla would marry Charles and on Saturday they celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary.

Upon her marriage, Camilla became stepmother to Charles’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
And in a separate interview with The TelegraphMs Brown says Harry ‘can’t stand’ his father’s second wife and doesn’t want her to be queen.
She added that he would be ‘pursuing’ the royal couple in his explosive memoir, which will be published later this year, and claimed her relationship with William was ‘very bad’.
Ms Brown explained: “William accepted Camilla in terms of what she means to his father. He grew up on it. ‘My father loves this woman, I can’t fight him, so I won’t. ‘
“Harry on the other hand can’t stand Camilla, he doesn’t want Camilla to be queen, he’s very angry that this is happening. He hasn’t made peace with it and he probably never will. .”
If true, the rift already present between Harry, 37, and his wife Meghan Markle, 40, and the rest of the Firm could deepen still further.
