Best-selling author Tara Gilvar wants society to value moms skills

The political junkie, campaign press secretary and director of a public relations agency have built a family and a career, and now a network to help other women find what they are looking for.

When Tara Gilvar was in the middle of her jet-set PR career, she became a mom. And she didn’t want to travel 60% of the week while handing over a huge chunk of her salary to someone to look after her baby. She therefore chose not to work.

After 13 years and two more children, she said, “I had lost my sense of myself. I didn’t really know what I was supposed to do, so I got a great mom. It was a little sad, but I had to channel all that energy. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and I said to myself: what are you going to do? I was a career girl and I loved it. I like to be strategic and think. But that no longer seemed possible.

Then Tara saw a sticker on a car in the school parking lot. He was like, “Do you remember who you wanted to be?” It was like lightning, she said, when she realized that she was absolutely not who she wanted to be. Soon she launched her Women’s Network: Believe, Inspire, Grow – BIG – to guide women in their career and motherhood journey, helping them not to get lost along the way. The members are of all ages and walks of life, she says, but they are usually “a suburban woman who left Corporate America a few years ago, or maybe a decade ago, and is looking.” She is looking for something more in her life. She might not know exactly what it is, but she does know that she wants more than what she has right now and that she wants to move on with her life.

Many women are interested in entrepreneurship because of the flexibility it offers. And even though the Covid pandemic has created more work-from-home opportunities, Tara notes, Corporate America is still “not quite ready to be as flexible as women want and need to be. have the full life they want, but we’re getting there, we’re getting closer.

In the meantime, Tara focuses on women helping women. “What inspires me now is the energy I receive from the feminine energy of others. If you can harness that, if you can surround yourself with like-minded women aligned with your values, every day. can be a good day Every day one opportunity leads to another opportunity and it sets the stage for your next step.
