Sharon Rogers, who has a master’s degree in education, instructional technology from American InterContinental University and works as a community resource manager at Head Start, has finished her new book “Nana’s Summertime Treats”: a charming story of a young girl, her loving grandmother, and the amazing desserts she makes for her family and friends during the summer.
“As far as my family can remember, from the early 1960s to the present, most summers when school is closed, African American children are sent south to stay with close members of the family, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, to learn how to work the fields or just for free child care,” writes Rogers. “At that time we really believed in the scripture that says, ‘ I am my brother’s keeper” (Genesis 4:9).
“This story is about a little girl named Kiari in the 21st century, and the routine continues. Kiari learns that Nana, her grandmother, is doing her part to support the family. What Kiari learns is that being a good cook is hard work. Kiari also learns reading skills and business techniques at a very young age. She looks forward to sharing this precious time with her grandparents.
Published by Page Publishing, Sharon Rogers’ charming tale will bring a smile to readers of all ages as they read about the wonderful treats that Nana de Kiari cooks up for her loved ones. Accompanied by vibrant and colorful artwork, young readers will find an adorable story about hard work and the fun of spending time with grandparents.
