Author Shares Addiction Cure with Virtual Book Club of Maine

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – A victims rights expert, herself a drug and abuse survivor, wants to connect with adults in Maine through a virtual book club.

Jennifer Storm from Camp Hill, Pa., Is an international speaker with over 20 years of experience in nonprofit management and government relations. She has over 23 years of active recovery.

After attending the previous literary session offered by Aroostook Mental Health Services of Presque Isle, Storm contacted the club’s organizers. When she offered to share her book “Blackout Girl: Tracing My Scars from Addiction and Assault”, they jumped at the chance. The third virtual book club will start on January 20.

Amber Rankine, Sexual Assault Client Advocate for AMHC Sexual Assault Services in Fort Kent, and Dawn Casella, Community Sexual Assault Educator, based in the Caribou office of the mental health organization , are the organizers of the club.

“For her to be so willing to honor our team and honor those we serve in our book clubs was just an honor and we couldn’t even have thought of saying no once the opportunity. had come forward, ”Rankine said.

Storm has defended victims in high-profile cases, where she has helped survivors of abuse by Jerry Sandusky, Bill Cosby and the Catholic clergy. She served as Victims’ Advocate for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 2013 to 2021.

“Jennifer is a very passionate and genuine person. His struggles and triumphs through survival and addiction are inspiring and revealing, ”Rankine said.

The virtual book club will be available to anyone over the age of 18 in Maine. There is no limit to the number of people who can register, but the book club can only provide 15 copies of the books. Once these are distributed, new members will need to purchase their own.

AMHC requires a screening for the Book Club, which will be a short Zoom session where Rankine and Casella will meet the participants.
