Author presenting a lecture on women’s history on Ida Tarbell and Lucille Ball at the JCC
Author Kathleen Brady is set to present a talk on two local natives next week at Jamestown Community College as part of Women’s History Month. The lecture titled “History Made in Chautauqua County: How Ida Tarbell and Lucille Ball Changed America” will be held Thursday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m. on JCC’s Jamestown campus in room Sheldon Center 332 and will be free and open to the public.
Brady, a visiting professor at St. Bonaventure University in Lenna, has written biographies of both women. She was made a Fellow of the Society of American Historians for her book Ida Tarbell: Portrait of a Muckraker although it is very well received Lucille, The Life of Lucille Ball this is its fifth printing.
Brady has also been featured on numerous programs on her subjects. On Ida Tarbell, a journalist and author who got her start at The Chautauquan newspaper, these include podcasts on NPR’s “Money Matters” series on Monopoly and on the History Channel. On Jamestown native Lucille Ball, it’s the TCM podcasts, a Fox Nation documentary and the American Masters PBS special.
Brady is a former co-director of the Biography Seminar at New York University and a former reporter for Time Magazine. She has contributed columns to Newsday and other publications.
