Author-poet Sunayana Kachroo writes poems and short stories in new book ‘Sunny Side Up’
Sunayana Kachroo, a Kashmiri poet and screenwriter based in the United States, discusses a range of themes, including roaming, gender issues, religion, grief and healing in her second book “Sunny Side Up”.
A collection of poems and short stories, ‘Sunny Side Up’ offers an intimate portrait of the artist as she writes an ode to Kashmir and all the places her roots have touched in a chapter titled ‘Home and homeless’. Likewise, the writer wittily tackles the patriarchal state of mind “Good girls do not abuse”.
Kachroo also examines the horrors of being a female child in a country ravaged by war and fascism, domestic violence, and topics like “the period” and “the religion of sex” in the book’s various chapters.
Through her poetic and literary journeyBoston-based Kachroo has been invited to recite at various prestigious venues.
In 2021, she was invited to the United States Capitol to recite her poems on Cashmere at a reception at the Congress of Indian-Americans from the Kashmiri diaspora community.
As a screenwriter, she has collaborated extensively with Sonu Nigam, Ankit Tiwari, Shankar Mahadevan, Ali Sethi, Anuradha Palakurthi, Hariharan, Harshdeep Kaur, Rashmeet Kaur, Jasraj Joshi, Noor Mohd, YawarAbdal, Hrishikesh Ranade and Archana Kamath. .
His next short film, titled ‘The Good News’, is with Danish director Renzu and it highlights the human and cultural loss in Cashmere. She wrote dialogues for Renzu’s previous films “Half Widow” (2017) and “The Illegal” (2019).
Kachroo is currently working on his next book entitled “Tere Jaane Key Baad”. “Sunny Side Up” is available on Amazon, Flipkart, and Kindle.
