Lou Vickery, former baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees, will be at the Basketcase Café in Dothan on Tuesday at 11 am to talk about his book called “Alabama Creek Indians”.

Vickery, a native of Alabama who also coached with the Cincinnati Reds, is the author of 12 books and the host of UPTalk, a weekly TV show on BLU TV. He spent 15 years as the radio host of Lou in the Morning before retiring in 2017.

“Alabama Creek Indians,” which details their saga from the early 1500s to the present day, is compiled from over two years of research by Vickery that was inspired by his passion for his Native American heritage and includes first-person accounts, letters, government reports, and documents surrounding the legend of what became of the Alabama Creek Nation.

Vickery describes his book as being full of authenticity and deep and rich in illuminating information and practical facts about the history of the Creek Indians in Alabama.

Sharman Ramsey, a Dothan resident, is hosting the event.

“Lou has a very fascinating and interesting story,” Ramsey said. “I had the pleasure of meeting him and I am happy to present him now to our local community.

Ramsey said there will be a lunch and question-and-answer session with Vickery after talking about her book and how the Poarch Creek Indians, the only federally recognized tribe in Alabama, are gone from where they were in the past to where they are today.
